Lunar Tides EP Now Available!

Hello, everyone!! For anyone who doesn’t know, I am in a band called Lunar Tides. I play the bass guitar, my fiance Lucas plays the drums and does vocals, and Randy (his dad) plays the guitar and also does vocals. We started our band project a little over two years ago now. I had never played the bass, Lucas had never played drums, and Randy mostly only played the bass. So the instruments were new for all of us!

Two years later we’ve all gotten much better, although there’s still a lot to learn! Lucas is now learning how to mix the music and did a fabulous job on our first EP! We have five songs, and they are now available to download at Bandcamp. You can buy just a track, or the whole EP for $5. Let me know which song is your favorite!

We worked really hard on these songs, especially Lucas, and I really hope you all enjoy them as much as we enjoyed writing and playing them! Tonight we have our EP release stream on Twitch, which will begin around 6pm CST (USA). If you’re able to make it we would love to see you there!! Have a great weekend!

Band Photo Weekend ~ Equipment Edition

I’ve already done a few posts about my bass, although I’m sure I’ll add it again in the equipment chronicles. πŸ˜‰ However, today we’re going to be looking at Randy’s guitar!! A very important instrument of course, we couldn’t have the band without it!

There it is!

It’s a 2005 Gibson Les Paul Standard Plus, and it’s pretty gorgeous! Now you can find them anywhere from about $2,000 to $3,000. I think he paid roughly $2,200 for it when he got itΒ in the spring of 2006.

The guitar’s been through a lot with him, and is still going strong! He hasn’t had to do anything to it other than getting new strings, of course! (hmm, I’ll have to do a post about the strings!) Eventually he’s wanting to get a secondary guitar, A of all because it’s fun, but B of all it’s good to have a backup, especially when playing gigs. I’ll get to the guitar he’d like to get in the future in a different post. πŸ™‚

Here’s Lucas playing on it

I hope you’re enjoying seeing all of our equipment so far! If there’s anything you’ve seen in previous pictures or anywhere and would like me to do a post on that, just leave it in the comments! Or if you have any questions about something in the band, please feel free to ask! I hope everyone’s having a great night, and the start to the week goes well! πŸ™‚

Lunar Tides Twitch Show Tonight!

I’m mostly making this post to keep up with NaBloPoMo (National Blog Posting Month) to write a post every day. So far so good! That’s also why yesterday’s was so short; I was really tired (maybe a little hung over..) so it was short and sweet and a post!

Today we went shopping! We got three new microphones we’ll be needing for recording our music, plus I now have my own microphone! :/ πŸ™‚ haha. I’m a little nervous about it. I lucked out this weekend though; we don’t have a stand for it yet (unless they’ve rigged up something for me that I don’t yet know about) so I’ll be talking next weekend! Hooray!

We also picked up a little webcam from Best Buy so we’ll have a clearer picture for the stream, plus we can now do some scene-switching between the two. In the future we might get some more for even more angles of us, but two is good for right now! Lucas is over there getting it all set up right now.

Lucas and I did get our haircut! We both really like it, they did a great job. The top of Lucas’s hair was eight inches long!! They took five off; that was crazy, we knew it was long but didn’t realize it was that long! I’ll be posting pictures later tonight or else tomorrow. Also, all three of us got new gig t-shirts! We’ll be sporting them tonight, so feel free to come check us out! πŸ˜‰ (Our music too; don’t forget the music!)

You can watch our past videos, plus a highlighted Halloween one on YouTube, plus you can come to the Twitch Show by clicking that link! πŸ™‚ We’ll probably go on in about an hour and twenty minutes, and you can follow my Twitter account where I’ll post about an hour beforehand, and the Lunar Tides Twitter as well! I hope everyone’s weekend is going great, and those who are participating in NaNoWriMo, I hope that’s going well! You can do it! πŸ™‚

Band Photo Weekend~Halloween Edition!

Yesterday was Halloween, and it was a great day! The sky was overcast and had rained a little earlier in the day, but the gloom just accented the spookiness. We went into town to get makeup for Lucas and Randy’s costumes, then out for lunch, and then back home to start getting dressed! We were going to carve pumpkins yesterday, but since it was so gloomy and wet out, we decided to push it back to today. Last night I drank way too much, and have been hung over all day today, so we’re pushing pumpkin carving back even further. That works out fine though, because I want to get charcoal to grill the seeds before we do carve them, and this way they’ll get their own special post. πŸ˜‰

Once we were ready to go, we went over to the band room to start our stream! Thank you so much to Collette B for coming to watch us play!! The support was awesome, please go give her blog some love too! πŸ™‚ We had a ton of fun streaming! All of us being dressed up was exciting, and no one said anything bad nor rude to us at all. We had almost 50 people in there at one point I believe, which is crazy. I made some mistakes, we all did, but the atmosphere was so great none of us really even cared, we were just having a blast! Afterward we went to a local bar for a couple drinks, and to show off our costumes a little more. πŸ™‚

Lucas dressed up as The Crow, which is a fantastic movie if you’ve never seen it! He was going to be the Joker for a long time, and then when he got up yesterday he was like, “I think I’m going to dress up as The Crow instead!” Haha. He did a FANTASTIC job on his costume and makeup! He just ripped up a long-sleeved shirt he had, wrapped electrical tape around his waist and wrists/arms, and then we got makeup from Hobby Lobby for his face. Voila! Here’s a photo of what The Crow looks like for those who don’t know, so you can see how closely he matched!

Randy dressed up as Jason; he bought a mask a few weeks ago, and had overalls and a black shirt already. We just got some fake blood and tattoos from Walmart, and voila! He was ready to go.

I dressed up as someone from the 80’s! I didn’t have to get anything; I actually have enough clothes to look like I stepped out of the 80’s. πŸ™‚ I didn’t have leg warmers, but I thought I was pretty clever. I cut the toes off of some fuzzy socks I have (since I have a million pairs) and turned them into leg warmers! I don’t think anyone could even tell they weren’t leg warmers!

My makeup took me FOREVER to put on, but it was so much fun! I loved taking the time to apply it, and making it look crazy. Lucas said it really made my eyes pop too; so I might be bringing the 80’s look back. (Seriously. I might keep doing that as my gimmick on our streams) I backcombed my hair, which I have never done and was worried I wouldn’t be able to do a good job. I had a backup plan of just doing a side pony tail if that were the case, but surprisingly I’m a backcombing prodigy! It turned out great, and what’s even better, I was able to get it back out pretty easily too!

I hope everyone had a great, safe Halloween! Enjoy pictures of Lunar Tides on Halloween! πŸ˜€

Band Photo Weekend

We’ll just pretend it’s still the weekend for this one! πŸ™‚ I worked this weekend, so we didn’t have as many practices as we’d have liked to, but we did our Twitch show still which was pretty fun. For some reason it didn’t seem as great as the previous one, but that’s how it goes sometimes.

We have quite a few riffs we’re working on right now, and Lucas came up with another one over the weekend! Lucas and I got the words completely written down for “This is America”. Now we just have to tweak and tighten up that song, and it’ll be completely ready to go! It’s a somewhat satirical yet true take on America. I think next weekend we’llΒ spend a lot of time just practicing our newest songs.

We will also be doing a special Halloween stream this Saturday! We’re all going to dress up while we play. (I still have to think of something quick and easy for my costume!) You can watch us live at the Twitch link here, plus follow Lunar Tides on Twitter, or follow my Twitter and I’ll give you an hour heads up on when we start.

Lucas had a wonderful idea for my Band Photo Weekend posts. I think I’ll be starting it next weekend, and the plan is to give you a few pictures of a piece of equipment, and then explain what exactly we do with it and how it works! Hopefully you’ll enjoy learning more about the different components that allow us to play our awesome music for you! πŸ˜€ hehe.

And now, I’ll leave you with the final lyrics to “This is America”!

This is America

(Verse 1)

Let me tell you a tale

Of cats and vapid websites

A generation tricked by

Fear and ignorant lies

This is where we draw the line

Another idiot marking time

I know this is where you want to be

I don’t know what they teach in school

When media’s the only rule

But I know this is where you’ve got to be

This is America!

(Verse 2)

Now our story persists

Languid degenerates

In this land of the free

Monetary atrocities

I Present to You..

..Band Photo Saturday! Well, not quite yet seeing as it is only Thursday, but you can be looking forward to a photo on Saturday!! For those of you who don’t know, I’m in a band with Lucas (my boyfriend) and Randy (his dad). We’re Lunar Tides, and you can find our band page on YouTube right here! Lucas plays drums and sings/does backup vocals, Randy plays the guitar and sings/does backup vocals, and I play the bass guitar! (Only shower, car, and to annoy Lucas singing for me!) We started our band a little over a year ago, and Lucas and I have only been playing our instruments for that amount of time. It’s definitely still a learning experience, but we’re having a ton of fun doing it and that’s the main thing! We’re learning more about our sound system and how to get it working properly, so sorry if some of the older videos are a little off. (We’re working on updating those!) Randy drives truck and is only home on the weekends, so we have a very limited window of time to play and write new material. We’re hoping in August to set up so we can live stream on Twitch! Don’t worry–I’ll be spamming you all with that information when the time comes. πŸ™‚

Back to my main point, every Saturday I’m going to be sharing with you a band photo! Depending on time/schedule/et cetera, I’ll let you know how our practice went, what we worked on, or why we didn’t have practice if that’s the case. Lunar Tides is another part of my life other than writing and my thoughts, so I thought it might be something interesting to share with all of you also! I hope you enjoy. πŸ™‚
