Happy Halloween/All Hallows Eve!

It’s been a long while, friends! How are all of you doing? Enjoying the weather? It’s 80° here today! I remember when there was snow on the ground when I went trick-or-treating as a kid.

I’m going to ramble for awhile; hope you don’t mind. I now am on 200mg of Lamictal, and 50mg of Zoloft, and let me tell you: IT IS AMAZING. I think (knock on wood) this is the magic amount and type of drugs for me! I was telling Lucas the other day it’s probably how ‘normal’ people feel all the time, but for me I feel like I’m on drugs because I’m so happy and actually myself! It’s wonderful. (Granted yes, I am on drugs, but I mean like non-prescription drugs. You get it.)

I’m still at the vet clinic; it’s just me and The Groomer now, so I’ve been doing prep work, all the bathing, and then helping to finish whatever dogs are left. So a few less dogs that I’m finishing, but I’m still really enjoying it, learning new things, and getting more hours which is great!

Lucas and I are doing very well as are all the animals! Lunar Tides is going great and we’ve had a few live shows in our area!! That’s been a lot of fun; we have another on the 19th of November. In two months it’ll be a year that I’ve been sober. I’m pretty proud of myself for that. I’m sure a million other things have happened since I’ve been gone, and I know tons has been going on in your lives too! I’d love to hear all about it. I can’t promise I’m back for sure now, but I felt like doing a bit of blogging today and we’ll see where it leads us.

Have a fantastic week you wonderful WordPress friends. ❤

Flying Solo

I have been taking different medications for depression and anxiety for just about a year now. I keep trying to find the medicine that will work for me, and some seem to but then lose their vigor. Two weeks ago I was put on Lexapro 10 mg. I was previously on Zoloft 200 mg, but had been feeling very foggy and tired all the time. I also was having some anger spurts which were not very fun!!

However, the Lexapro was TERRIBLE for me. I was irritated at everything, and would snap on Lucas just for looking at me! So I decided to quit taking the Lexapro because even if it began to be helpful, the irritation was not worth it. Now I’m just me in my head, and we’ll see how that goes. I have a psychiatrist appointment in about a month, and we’ll see where I’m at then. But for now, I figured it might be a good idea to try to get back to me and see how I’m doing. I’ve been on different meds for so long now, that I’m not even sure what feelings are mine and which are drug-induced!

It will be nice to see how I am on my own, but at the same time I don’t want to lose all the progress I’ve made when things have been going well. I’m still going to therapy, and actually have an appointment in an hour. So we’ll see how things go.

Other than that, life has been moving at high speed. Still grooming dogs, had a death in the family and the funeral last weekend, am sick now which sucks, and haven’t been on here or writing like I should! But I’m hoping to get back into things. Lucas and I are doing great, as are the animals which is good. I don’t know what I’d do without Lucas, and am so thankful he puts up with my moods and is so understanding to not hate me when I’m mean to him!! :/ Mental illness sucks.

I hope everyone is doing well though, take care!!  ❤

Lunar Tides EP Now Available!

Lunar Tides EP Now Available!

Hello, everyone!! For anyone who doesn’t know, I am in a band called Lunar Tides. I play the bass guitar, my fiance Lucas plays the drums and does vocals, and Randy (his dad) plays the guitar and also does vocals. We started our band project a little over two years ago now. I had never played the bass, Lucas had never played drums, and Randy mostly only played the bass. So the instruments were new for all of us!

Two years later we’ve all gotten much better, although there’s still a lot to learn! Lucas is now learning how to mix the music and did a fabulous job on our first EP! We have five songs, and they are now available to download at Bandcamp. You can buy just a track, or the whole EP for $5. Let me know which song is your favorite!

We worked really hard on these songs, especially Lucas, and I really hope you all enjoy them as much as we enjoyed writing and playing them! Tonight we have our EP release stream on Twitch, which will begin around 6pm CST (USA). If you’re able to make it we would love to see you there!! Have a great weekend!

Who I Am

Who I Am

For those who don’t know, I am 23 years old and live in the Midwest USA. I recently had to figure out what I wanted to do with my life, for a few different reasons. The most pressing though, was that when I turn 25 (I think) I go off my dad’s insurance. Now, that  might not be too big of a deal, but since I’m a Type 1 Diabetic (for 19 years now) I definitely must have insurance. There is no way anyone can afford the outrageous cost for a Type 1 Diabetic to get the supplies that will keep them alive. I’ll save my rantings on that for another post.

Anyway, I needed to either have a job that would offer me good insurance, or else have a job where I can afford to pay for good insurance by that time. I decided to go with dog grooming, and am very happy that I did! However, I’m still not sure if it’ll be enough for insurance, but surprisingly that isn’t what I want this post to be about anyhow.

Yesterday I finished my first reading of a Philip K. Dick book by recommendation of Lucas. (Thank you amore!) Flow My Tears the Policeman Said is the one I had the pleasure of reading first. And my, how my mind did melt. I am putting everything he’s ever done on my list of must-reads. If you haven’t read him, you need to! (Although I’m probably the one late to the party) I started to read more about him as a person after finishing his work, which is what I normally do when a book/movie/actor/etc moves me. I learned that he had dealings with drugs, depression, other mental health issues. His ideas for the future, now over forty years ago, still hold up against time and could be our future even now. We definitely didn’t get there yet, but reading his book really made me think about the world.

We live in an age that no one has been in. Which is also true for the generations before us. (That we know of) What exactly are we doing with this time, and this knowledge, and technology we have? Are we bettering the world? Are we helping each other achieve goals, and move toward the future in unison? Are we trying to colonize other planets, and explore the universe? Why do we feel the need to be contained on one planet when there are too many to count right at our backdoor?

Yes, some people are trying to do good, and trying to help the world and their fellow man. But most of us are not. Is that just ‘the human condition’, or will we as humanity reach a point where we decide enough is enough and we change? When I was in first grade I wrote a story about the Rain Forest. At that time I wanted to go to the Rain Forests when I grew up and fight for the lives there that were being destroyed. The trees, the animals. Look up how many of our animals are endangered, or already extinct. It is disgusting. Only for the fact that it isn’t Nature who’s endangering them as the circle of life goes, but it’s us! WE are responsible. Even if you aren’t the one doing it, we’re living in a world where most of us don’t care, or don’t speak up about the things that are wrong because we’d rather ‘go with the flow’ and not stand out or make waves.

I have anxiety. It’s getting better, but is still very much there. I have decided though, that I’m not going to let it stand in my way. I’m going to go against the flow, and I am going to be me with MY thoughts and MY opinions. And they might differ from yours. And that’s okay. We don’t need to be the same, but we don’t need to fight about it either.

At work, The Groomer is everyone’s favorite person to hate. You know the one, I’m sure every workplace has somebody like that. She drinks, and comes to work drunk a lot. I’m not really sure why they let her stay, considering it is a HUGE risk and liability. I’ll write a different post about that though, I don’t want to get off topic. I’ve lived my life up to this point trying to please everyone, and trying to say or do what I think they want me to so they’ll like me or so we’ll get along perfectly. Since she broke her hand, she’s been out of the clinic quite a bit due to it swelling and her not being able to groom anyway. When she isn’t there, other staff members are excited and talk about how great it is she’s gone and how terrible she is. I’ll stand up there and nod along; not really inputting anything, but laughing when they do and whatnot else.

I was thinking about that the past couple days, and that isn’t me, nor is it who I want to be. I don’t want to be that person who laughs behind someone’s back, especially someone who has taught me everything I know about grooming, and who has had a difficult life. You don’t end up the way she is without having had many ordeals throughout the years. From now on, I refuse to be that person. If others want to talk and make fun of her, that’s on them. I will not stand for it, nor be around it anymore. Who cares if they think I’m dumb or like me less because of it? Not me. I’d rather be who I am, and proud of that person, than have to tell you all I’ve gone along with making fun of someone and feeling ashamed of that.

Going back to humanity, why is it so hard for us to help each other out? Today we went to the store, and there was a man sitting outside. He walks around town, we’ve seen him the past two years we’ve lived here. He’s homeless, and just has a backpack. Always out in the elements, rain or shine. Why do we shy away from, and move our gaze from people like that? Why is our first response not one of helping and comforting? I don’t have a lot of money, but I had three dollars in my wallet which I gave to him. He thanked me, and I said, “Happy Memorial Day”. He said, “Oh, is that today?” I told him no, tomorrow, and he smiled. “Peace and love to you” he told me as I walked away, and I turned back and smiled and told him same to you.

Three dollars may not be a lot to some, but it is to me, and I’m sure to him. Want to know something crazy though? The feeling I got having that momentary connection with him, knowing he could now get something cool to drink, or whatever it was he wanted most with that $3, made me feel better than anything I could have bought with it.

I’m still figuring out who I am. With any luck, I’ll still be figuring it out forty years from now. I don’t like a lot of things in this world. I don’t like the way most people treat each other, and the Earth. I’m frustrated with it all. But I also realize I can make MY world how I would like to see everyone’s. Not by writing a story, but by living it. Now that I’ve written that down it does sound a bit cheesy, but it’s true. I can be better to my fellow humans, and fellow flora and fauna surrounding me. I can continue to give to those in need, and donate to charities that try to help endangered animals and other important causes. I may not have a lot to give, but every single little bit counts. And I will like that person in me who gives, and who wants to see things get better, and who wants to be a part of that. In time, I may actually learn to like myself. And that would be grand.

New Site, New Me.?

New Site, New Me.?

Well it’s been awhile, again! I feel like I keep saying that with each post. I also keep meaning to get back into blogging like I used to be, but somehow that hasn’t quite happened yet! I’m still here though, just lurking in the shadows at the moment.

To give a little update, I’ve been the sole groomer for about  a month at the vet clinic. The Groomer broke her hand so I’ve been doing it all until she’s better. I really love it, and have been doing a good job!

I saw a psychiatrist and now am on 150mg of Zoloft. It seems to be helping I think. I also am still going to therapy every week which has been very helpful and great!

I’ve kind of taken a pause from writing, I would like to get back into it though. Damn depression or whatever it is that keeps us from doing what we love!!

We’re still working on our EP, only vocals are left so it should be done fairly soon! We also have new songs in the works which is really exciting.

Anyway, I was just sitting here and thought I would spruce up my WordPress in hopes it would get me back in the swing of things. I changed the theme, although I’m not sure if I’ll keep it or not yet. Plus I changed my tagline to ‘under construction’ since I’m changing my blog around a little, and my life in general I suppose!

I hope everyone is doing well, I miss you guys and haven’t forgotten about you! I’ve just been busy and whatnot, but still think of you guys and hope everything is going really well. 🙂 Have a great weekend!

Hello, Everyone!

Hello, Everyone!

It’s been awhile since I’ve written a post, after saying that I was going to try to make more scheduled posts in 2016! Well I still will try, it just might be a little bit later than intended. I haven’t been very active on here, as you may have noticed (sorry!), but I definitely have not forgotten you wonderful people!!

I think a few factors have influenced my ghost-like appearance here on WordPress: I’ve been working a lot and then feeling lazy when I get home, I’ve been busy with Rocky and hanging out with Lucas, plus I just have been feeling kind of anxious when I think about getting on here. Not really sure why, there’s no reason for it and I really love blogging and reading all of your blogs! That’s probably the main reason though, and it really bothers me because I do love being on here, I just don’t quite know how to make myself come back to it!

I’m going to be making an appointment with the doctor to get another checkup on my Celexa and see if that needs changed at all, and then my arm keeps going numb which has been SUPER annoying and I’d like to figure out why, and my right nostril hurts! Haha, maybe too much info there, but I figured I’d fill you in. 😉 So hopefully in a little time I will be back full-force to read through your blogs and continue blogging myself, perhaps with a schedule in mind!

I have read your comments, and I really super appreciate them, thank you! I will be trying to get back to them all in the near future. For now, I hope everyone is having a great week and things are going well! Talk to you soon. 😀

Let’s Have a Serious Conversation: Alcohol

Let’s Have a Serious Conversation: Alcohol

I have made it through 2015 being a blogger! I’m excited to continue into 2016 blogging, meeting new bloggers, and connecting even more with all of you. Thank you so much for making this possible, and for continuing to follow me through my life. 🙂

I’ve learned a lot through this past year of blogging, and I was thinking of trying to make a schedule for my blog. Of course if there’s something I’d like to blog about in between scheduled post days I will, but I think it’ll help me to have something to stick to. I will continue to do my Band Photo Weekend posts, and I was thinking about adding this “Let’s Have a Serious Conversation: Insert Topic” posts too. We’ll see how this one does and what you guys think! Once I know more of what hours I’ll be working at work once changes take place, I should be able to make a better schedule knowing what days I’ll be tired from work and whatnot. I’ll keep you posted!

Now, without further ado, let’s have that conversation! I think it’s a good topic, seeing as it’s now the New Year and we’re making resolutions and have probably indulged over New Year’s Eve. I’ll start out by telling you about me and alcohol.

I never really started drinking until I was about nineteen. During high school my best friend would, and I would be her DBS- Designated Baby Sitter. I didn’t mind, and honestly wasn’t too upset to not be drinking! Once I turned nineteen I did start drinking more though. I had a few times of being black-out drunk which is never fun the next day. Honestly, it’s a little scary realizing you were functioning, talking, dealing with people, and have no idea what you said or did.

The past couple years I would drink quite a bit. Some nights were fun, but lots of other nights I would pick fights with Lucas, say things I didn’t mean and never would have sober, broke things, and was physically abusive at times. Not only that, but as I realized what I had done, I would start to feel horrible. Many times I would end the night cutting myself, and quite a few times I was trying to kill myself. I’ve also been hospitalized once for alcohol poisoning. Clearly, alcohol and I do not get along.

Not only that, but being a Type 1 Diabetic I really need to watch myself and my blood sugars while drinking, which is something I clearly don’t do. I’ve decided a few times to quit drinking, but this time I’m serious. Which is another reason we’re having this conversation, so not only am I accountable to myself, but to all of you as well. When I’m drinking I try to sabotage my relationship, make very poor decisions, attempt suicide, have no accountability or care for if I have to work the next day, and have a terrible hangover the next day. What will I be missing out on? Nothing. I can have just as much fun being sober.

There are many people who deal with alcoholism, and it also runs in my family. Another great reason to cut it off early, while I’m 22, almost 23. Lucas’s dad, Randy, will have a beer or two on the weekend but that’s it. He used to drink quite a bit, but then one night of hard drinking he woke the next morning with AFIB and quit cold turkey. It’s scary stuff after enough years! His brother is in really poor health now, and is continuing to drink. Not only that, but he’s known multiple people who have died from alcohol.

Moderation is key to all things, and I’m not saying to not drink. Everyone has what works for them, and a couple of drinks can be fun now and then. I just know that I don’t know when to stop, and to be the best me that I can, and to keep healthy, that is to not drink at all. There’s Sparkling White Grape juice that I got for Christmas and New Years, and it’s delicious! It was like $3 at Dollar General, and I had just as much fun than if I’d been drinking. Probably even more so!

What is your take on alcohol? Do you drink, or are you making a New Year’s resolution to cut back or quit as well? Comment and let me know, let’s have a conversation about it!

Happy 2016!

Happy 2016!

I hope everyone had a wonderful and safe New Year’s Eve, and that 2016 has been a great year so far for you!! For me it’s been fantastic, and had some excitement in it already! Yesterday we went shopping and I got Rocky a new harness and collar, he’ll have to wait for the matching leash until next paycheck! Lucas and I both got a pair of jeans, he got a t-shirt, I got a coat, and I finally got the present for my sister from our sibling gift exchange. Quite a bit late on that, but better late than never, right?

So that was a lot of fun! Plus I have a three day weekend, after working eleven days, so I’ve been really enjoying this!! Last night when I went to walk Rocky we walked toward the back of the cabin and a coyote started howling and then I heard a bunch of them barking at the end of the lane. It was kind of spooky! I made Lucas come stand at the doorway in case they tried to eat us. 😉 They didn’t, just were making a bunch of noise. But that was plenty of excitement for me! haha.

We had a Twitch stream last night, and that was pretty fun! Lucas’s cousin is on a break from the Navy and will be getting here sometime tonight to stay a couple days I think, so he’s really looking forward to that. We need to clean up a little but will still probably stream tonight, we’re debating it!

Overall, 2016 is looking to be a great year. I don’t really make New Year’s resolutions, since I figure if you want to change something you ought to do it whenever you feel the change is needed, not just at the New Year. However, I have made a change that I’m going to try really hard to stick with, and I’ll be sharing that in probably my next post. For now, I will leave you with a video Lucas took of me singing to Shakira – Hips Don’t Lie that he conned me into doing and then put on YouTube. haha! I hope everyone’s having a great weekend!! 🙂

Making Strides

Making Strides

Today’s post is full of good news!! I’ll save what I find the most exciting for last. First off, The Groomer told me today she’s wanting to transition me into doing the prep work on the dogs!! She’ll have to work it out with me still being in boarding and whatnot, but it sounds like she’s wanting to start that pretty soon. I’ll keep you posted on what I find out, but I wasn’t expecting that so soon! I’m really looking forward to it though! 😀

Secondly, this is very first-world of me, but I just wanted to say that I had some of the best service and food from Olive Garden the other night! Randy, Lucas, and I went out to eat on Sunday for a late Christmas dinner. We went to Olive Garden, and everyone working there was super friendly, very attentive without being overbearing, and just all around excellent! The food was delivered so quickly we remarked on it and they offered to take it back and wait until we were ready! Of course we just took the food then, hah. I’m not sure if we just lucked out that our Olive Garden is fantastic, or if they all are, but I would definitely recommend going!!

The final great news is that American Girl is coming out with a diabetic care kit for their dolls starting on January 1st!! The kit is $24 and will include: an insulin pump, glucose meter, lancing device, insulin pen, glucose tablets, medical alert bracelet, insulin pump skin stickers, diabetes log book, and a bag! These items are all things I have used, or still currently use with my Type 1 Diabetes. I’ve been a big fan of American Girl for many many years, having had dolls in the past as well.

This is such fantastic news for me, being a Type 1 Diabetic, and knowing that other younger girls going through what I did will have this to keep them company and feeling ‘normal’. Not only that, but other kids who don’t have Type 1 Diabetes can also get the kit and maybe learn a little bit more about their peers before jumping to their own conclusions.

Anja Busse (now 13) started a Change.org petition in January 2014 after being diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. All the credit is due to her for being so brave to take a stand and ask for something from a big company that she felt should have been there all the time. I 100% agree and commend her for working so hard on it!! You can read the Daily Mail article here.

All the Diabetes supplies!!

Ahh!! If you can’t tell, I am super thrilled by this news, and I hope everyone else is too! Type 1 Diabetes is a chronic autoimmune disease, and it really sucks. I applaud American Girl for taking steps to make it a little less horrible for children everywhere, thank you!!

Band Photo Weekend!

Band Photo Weekend!

It’s been awhile since I’ve posted a band photo weekend, and while I’m a day late on it, I figure that’ll be all right! 😉 We did a special Christmas stream this weekend, last weekend, and will still have our lights up for next weekend as well! We dressed up last weekend, but decided just to have the lights up for this weekend. Perhaps we’ll try to have fancy outfits for the New Year next weekend! We’ll see. 🙂

20151219_180721
Lights on and stockings up!

There’s how our lights were set up; I took a few other pictures, but apparently they didn’t really turn out very well. It was a lot of fun dressing up to stream, and Lucas even made us all Christmas shirts to wear! Now, they do have swear words on them, and I am actually working on a post about swear words, but we did it all in fun, not to offend anyone!

This weekend was a great stream for us; we actually had more new followers than any other night! We had about thirty people start to follow us. We’re working on a few new songs, and I really like the direction we’re going with them! It’s exciting to be working toward recording an album, and then seeing the direction our new songs are taking.

Next weekend I’ll go back to posting about our equipment; we recently had someone buy us a microphone that we were needing to get in order to record our album, which was super amazing of them!! That’ll be the next item I’ll post about, so keep an eye out for it! I hope everyone’s having a great start to their week! 🙂
