Hello, everyone!! For anyone who doesn’t know, I am in a band called Lunar Tides. I play the bass guitar, my fiance Lucas plays the drums and does vocals, and Randy (his dad) plays the guitar and also does vocals. We started our band project a little over two years ago now. I had never played the bass, Lucas had never played drums, and Randy mostly only played the bass. So the instruments were new for all of us!
Two years later we’ve all gotten much better, although there’s still a lot to learn! Lucas is now learning how to mix the music and did a fabulous job on our first EP! We have five songs, and they are now available to download at Bandcamp. You can buy just a track, or the whole EP for $5. Let me know which song is your favorite!
We worked really hard on these songs, especially Lucas, and I really hope you all enjoy them as much as we enjoyed writing and playing them! Tonight we have our EP release stream on Twitch, which will begin around 6pm CST (USA). If you’re able to make it we would love to see you there!! Have a great weekend!
It’s been awhile since I’ve posted a band photo weekend, and while I’m a day late on it, I figure that’ll be all right! 😉 We did a special Christmas stream this weekend, last weekend, and will still have our lights up for next weekend as well! We dressed up last weekend, but decided just to have the lights up for this weekend. Perhaps we’ll try to have fancy outfits for the New Year next weekend! We’ll see. 🙂
There’s how our lights were set up; I took a few other pictures, but apparently they didn’t really turn out very well. It was a lot of fun dressing up to stream, and Lucas even made us all Christmas shirts to wear! Now, they do have swear words on them, and I am actually working on a post about swear words, but we did it all in fun, not to offend anyone!
This weekend was a great stream for us; we actually had more new followers than any other night! We had about thirty people start to follow us. We’re working on a few new songs, and I really like the direction we’re going with them! It’s exciting to be working toward recording an album, and then seeing the direction our new songs are taking.
Next weekend I’ll go back to posting about our equipment; we recently had someone buy us a microphone that we were needing to get in order to record our album, which was super amazing of them!! That’ll be the next item I’ll post about, so keep an eye out for it! I hope everyone’s having a great start to their week! 🙂
I’ve already done a few posts about my bass, although I’m sure I’ll add it again in the equipment chronicles. 😉 However, today we’re going to be looking at Randy’s guitar!! A very important instrument of course, we couldn’t have the band without it!
It’s a 2005 Gibson Les Paul Standard Plus, and it’s pretty gorgeous! Now you can find them anywhere from about $2,000 to $3,000. I think he paid roughly $2,200 for it when he got it in the spring of 2006.
The guitar’s been through a lot with him, and is still going strong! He hasn’t had to do anything to it other than getting new strings, of course! (hmm, I’ll have to do a post about the strings!) Eventually he’s wanting to get a secondary guitar, A of all because it’s fun, but B of all it’s good to have a backup, especially when playing gigs. I’ll get to the guitar he’d like to get in the future in a different post. 🙂
I hope you’re enjoying seeing all of our equipment so far! If there’s anything you’ve seen in previous pictures or anywhere and would like me to do a post on that, just leave it in the comments! Or if you have any questions about something in the band, please feel free to ask! I hope everyone’s having a great night, and the start to the week goes well! 🙂
I finally am posting about our band equipment! I’ll be starting off with two smaller pieces that we actually just picked up this weekend. They may not seem that noteworthy, but we definitely need and use even the smallest of pieces we have!
We’ll start off with our new guitar stands! The brand is Quiklok, and they’re really nice compared to what we had before. The back of them can adjust their height, and as you can see, my bass just barely fits in there!
Next, I’ll also show you my new microphone stand! It’s an OnStage, and is pretty neat, I think. It’s a boom stand, which means that it can either be straight up and down, or it can lean forward toward me.
Since I don’t show you enough animal pictures already, here’s a little kitten that showed up outside the band room! She’s super sweet and adorable, and Lucas’s grandma decided to adopt her, so she’s safe and warm inside! 🙂
I hope you enjoyed the first installment of the Equipment Editions!! Stay tuned next weekend to learn more. 🙂
This was an exciting weekend for Lunar Tides, and it was Randy’s birthday today!! As I mentioned yesterday, we went shopping for some mics, a camera, and new shirts for all three of us! 🙂 Lucas and I also got our hair cut, which is always fun!
Thank you so very much to Paula from Never a Dull Bling for coming to our stream on Saturday!! 😀 I was so excited to see her come watch and support our music, as I’m morphing my blogging life and band life together! 😉 That was a blast. We had a few trolls toward the end of the night, but nothing a quick ‘ban’ couldn’t fix! Hah. We also had another surprise stream tonight, where we were just working on some new songs and running the camera scene switching! Lucas figured out how to set it up, so although we didn’t have it last night, we’ll definitely have it next weekend!
Without further ado, I’ll go ahead and share some pictures of our new ‘dos. 🙂
Since I had to share some photos of our haircuts, (which does have to do with Lunar Tides!) I’m going to start showing our equipment next weekend. I know I’ve been saying that for a couple weekends now, but I promise next weekend is the time!! Is there any piece of equipment you’d like me to write about first, or something you’ve seen in a video or picture that you’d like to know more about? Just let me know and I can start that series off with it!
I hope everyone has a great start to their week! I’ll leave you all with this little gem of Lucas and me trying to take a picture…
Yesterday was Halloween, and it was a great day! The sky was overcast and had rained a little earlier in the day, but the gloom just accented the spookiness. We went into town to get makeup for Lucas and Randy’s costumes, then out for lunch, and then back home to start getting dressed! We were going to carve pumpkins yesterday, but since it was so gloomy and wet out, we decided to push it back to today. Last night I drank way too much, and have been hung over all day today, so we’re pushing pumpkin carving back even further. That works out fine though, because I want to get charcoal to grill the seeds before we do carve them, and this way they’ll get their own special post. 😉
Once we were ready to go, we went over to the band room to start our stream! Thank you so much to Collette B for coming to watch us play!! The support was awesome, please go give her blog some love too! 🙂 We had a ton of fun streaming! All of us being dressed up was exciting, and no one said anything bad nor rude to us at all. We had almost 50 people in there at one point I believe, which is crazy. I made some mistakes, we all did, but the atmosphere was so great none of us really even cared, we were just having a blast! Afterward we went to a local bar for a couple drinks, and to show off our costumes a little more. 🙂
Lucas dressed up as The Crow, which is a fantastic movie if you’ve never seen it! He was going to be the Joker for a long time, and then when he got up yesterday he was like, “I think I’m going to dress up as The Crow instead!” Haha. He did a FANTASTIC job on his costume and makeup! He just ripped up a long-sleeved shirt he had, wrapped electrical tape around his waist and wrists/arms, and then we got makeup from Hobby Lobby for his face. Voila! Here’s a photo of what The Crow looks like for those who don’t know, so you can see how closely he matched!
Randy dressed up as Jason; he bought a mask a few weeks ago, and had overalls and a black shirt already. We just got some fake blood and tattoos from Walmart, and voila! He was ready to go.
I dressed up as someone from the 80’s! I didn’t have to get anything; I actually have enough clothes to look like I stepped out of the 80’s. 🙂 I didn’t have leg warmers, but I thought I was pretty clever. I cut the toes off of some fuzzy socks I have (since I have a million pairs) and turned them into leg warmers! I don’t think anyone could even tell they weren’t leg warmers!
My makeup took me FOREVER to put on, but it was so much fun! I loved taking the time to apply it, and making it look crazy. Lucas said it really made my eyes pop too; so I might be bringing the 80’s look back. (Seriously. I might keep doing that as my gimmick on our streams) I backcombed my hair, which I have never done and was worried I wouldn’t be able to do a good job. I had a backup plan of just doing a side pony tail if that were the case, but surprisingly I’m a backcombing prodigy! It turned out great, and what’s even better, I was able to get it back out pretty easily too!
I hope everyone had a great, safe Halloween! Enjoy pictures of Lunar Tides on Halloween! 😀
We’ll just pretend it’s still the weekend for this one! 🙂 I worked this weekend, so we didn’t have as many practices as we’d have liked to, but we did our Twitch show still which was pretty fun. For some reason it didn’t seem as great as the previous one, but that’s how it goes sometimes.
We have quite a few riffs we’re working on right now, and Lucas came up with another one over the weekend! Lucas and I got the words completely written down for “This is America”. Now we just have to tweak and tighten up that song, and it’ll be completely ready to go! It’s a somewhat satirical yet true take on America. I think next weekend we’ll spend a lot of time just practicing our newest songs.
We will also be doing a special Halloween stream this Saturday! We’re all going to dress up while we play. (I still have to think of something quick and easy for my costume!) You can watch us live at the Twitch link here, plus follow Lunar Tides on Twitter, or follow my Twitter and I’ll give you an hour heads up on when we start.
Lucas had a wonderful idea for my Band Photo Weekend posts. I think I’ll be starting it next weekend, and the plan is to give you a few pictures of a piece of equipment, and then explain what exactly we do with it and how it works! Hopefully you’ll enjoy learning more about the different components that allow us to play our awesome music for you! 😀 hehe.
And now, I’ll leave you with the final lyrics to “This is America”!
Another great weekend for Lunar Tides! We ordered a computer about a week and a half ago; our other one was VERY old, especially in the tech world. Now that we’re streaming regularly on Twitch, we needed to upgrade it to be able to stream and eventually record our first album for digital download! (perhaps CD’s too; we’ll see what happens!)
Lucas put it together; he’s the brains of the operation in that department. 🙂
We also now have a Focusrite 18i20. With that we will be able to do multi-track recording. We still need a few microphones and other odds and ends before we begin to record, but we are well on our way!
Not only that, but we need to get Pro Tools to be able to keep the tracks and tweak them to make us sound the best we can be. 😉 Fortunately, we have some AMAZING viewers on Twitch, and one of them is sending us a version of Pro Tools! Normally it is a $600 investment, but they’re giving it to us for free since they use a different program. We’ll have to upgrade it, but that will only be about $60, which clearly is a way better deal! This will expedite our recording timeline which is awesome. We are super excited about that; it was so very nice of them.
We’re building up a little community of Twitch followers and it’s really exciting! Some of them specifically wait for us to go on stream on Saturdays! We have one viewer from Europe who I think woke up early just to watch us play. It’s a really humbling and wonderful feeling. 😀
We’re working on new riffs; we have some more on the back burner but are pumping them out rather quickly, and we need to wait and really fine-tune the newest ones now before moving on. If you’d like to hear a sneak preview of our newest one “This is America”, you can click on this link and watch it on YouTube! 🙂
Finally, for the very first time, someone made us fan art!! I feel like we’ve really hit it big now. 😉 They linked us a picture they made in paint I believe, and we absolutely love it! We’re thinking of putting it on a shirt or something; I think that’d be pretty cool. Here it is:
Lunar Tides is steadily moving forward; it’s been such a fun journey and we’re just getting started! We play every Saturday, and sometimes Friday or Sunday pending schedules and what’s going on. You can follow us on Twitter at our band page, plus you can follow my Twitter and I’ll tweet about an hour before we go live. (I’ll put “in an hour” so that way no one has to think about time zones. Those are confusing. 😛 )
Thank you for all of your support in our Lunar Tides adventures, and in my blogging adventures! 😀 I hope everyone has a wonderful week.
This weekend was pretty good for Lunar Tides! We did our stream on Saturday, and aside from a few hecklers it went really well. The funny thing about playing live is that you don’t always hear things the way they’re coming through for everyone else. I thought I was off the whole time, and Lucas thought he was off pitch on his singing. We watched the past broadcast afterward, and lo and behold we actually did pretty damn good! My bass was a little louder than necessary, but who doesn’t love a good loud bass? 😉
We have three new riff ideas in the works, so that’s really exciting for us. We’d kind of been stuck in a rut with writing new material, but it seems that we’ve broken through the wall finally! Lucas and Randy were jamming on the new one for the stream since I didn’t know how to play it. We worked on it tonight, and slowly but surely I’m getting the hang of it!
We live right next to a radio tower, which is horrible when you’re trying to play live music! Randy’s amp will pick it up clear as day when we’re in between songs. Once we start to play you can’t hear it, but for those moments in between, you’re dancing to whatever’s playing on Mike FM! We decided to do a little bit of engineering, and grounded his amp with our own copper wiring!
That’s the grounding work to the right of the amp. So far it’s been working, you could hardly hear the radio this weekend! That was really nice, and we’re hoping it continues to work! All in all, it was a good weekend of practicing and structuring our newer songs. I hope everyone has a great week!
All right, I won’t make you wait for the news…I SANG ON STREAM!! The stream has been asking since forever for me to sing, and I haven’t done it thus far because I have been super petrified, and hadn’t practiced singing into the mic. We went over to the band room this week so I could practice doing it in the microphone and be less afraid of my own voice, so tonight was the night!!
I’m posing for a photo, not actually singing right here. 🙂 But I did it!! I was so scared and wanted to chicken out, but nope! I sang! I just did karaoke to Lorde – Tennis Courts. We highlighted it so if you want to watch just the snippet of me singing you can find it right here on YouTube. 😀 Randy and Lucas also did karaoke, it was a ton of fun! P.S. the shout-out to Mia and Sophie are my little sisters, my mom let them stay up late so they could watch me sing. 🙂
All in all we had a great stream tonight, and everyone was really nice about my singing! No negative comments at all which made me feel a lot better about it. 🙂 We also had a stream raid (where all the chat watching a different streamer comes to the same channel, in this case ours!) which was super cool. There were over 100 people and my laptop froze from everyone coming in so quickly and following us. It was pretty awesome.
Here are Randy and Lucas working on Lucas’s vocals to “Ambience”.
And last but definitely not least… the room next to the band room had a stowaway!
Haha! He snuck in here, a little baby opossum. I think he left though, or at least Randy will get him to leave eventually. If you want to watch our previous broadcasts on Twitch you can do so here, and let me know what you thought of my singing! 🙂
