How and Where I Write

How and Where I Write

Everyone has a different way they write, and what things help and hinder their writing experience. Personally, I’m pretty easy to please. Most of my writing gets done right on the little couch (it’s not actually a couch, but I don’t know exactly what it’s called) that’s in the center of our cabin. Since I live in a cabin, I don’t have another room specifically for writing, although sometimes that might be handy!

I grew up in a very noisy household with lots of siblings. It actually really helped me in the long run, because I am a master at tuning things -more specifically people- out without even thinking about it! This comes in super handy when I’m reading or writing, because Lucas can be doing whatever noisy thing he wants, and I am completely ‘in the zone’.Β Honestly, just about anywhere I am, I am able to write!

When I blog, I just have my laptop open on my lap, some coffee or soda, and I’m ready to go! I usually just write all my blog posts in the WordPress ‘create new post’ place, although every once in awhile I’ll write it in a word document (technically LibreOffice document) and then copy paste it over.

When I’m writing my stories, however, I usually do that with pen and paper. For some reason, I have to physically be writing it for it to really make sense for me. I love being able to actually cross things off, and then highlight words I want to replace or sections that need worked on, etc. I’ll then type up everything I’ve written, save it on my computer, and also save it on a USB flash drive as well. I accidentally completely totaled my old laptop, and lost everything that was on there. I learned from that experience, and will always have multiple back-ups in case something happens!!

I also always carry a little notebook and have lots of pens in my purse, since you never know when inspiration will strike! Overall, just give me enough room for me, a laptop, or a notebook (or binder full of paper is what I have) and a pen, and I am good to go!

This post was inspired by WordPress’s Writing 101, which I am currently enrolled in. Now, I am to ask you all for some suggestions on what to write!! You can visit my Contact Me page and send your suggestion that way, or you can leave it in the comments below!Β I appreciate the feedback. πŸ™‚ Also, what’s your ideal writing place/style?

    1. That’s a great way to write! I sometimes get inspired by just words and lines too; it’s also fun to read what someone else has written and then twist it to make it your own! I feel like it’s impossible to write without coffee. πŸ˜‰

    1. Thank you for sharing as well! πŸ™‚ Those all sound like the best way to do it. Sitting outside listening to nature is always so peaceful. I feel like it definitely helps to get the creative juices flowing. πŸ™‚

  1. I’m at home with my trusty Toshiba laptop, a cold drink and my personal thoughts running through my head in my favourite room in the house, my computer room…. I usually have some idea of what I want to write about before I even switch on my computer! Time at work lets me think and think I do!

      1. I’m on my third Toshiba – my first one was a Satellite Pro 120 (Windows XP), my second was a Satellite L500 (Windows 7) and this one I have now is a Satellite C50D (Windows 8.1)…..

      2. Oh that’s awesome! Mine’s a Dell right now; I got it last year on black Friday since it was pretty cheap on sale. I don’t know exactly what it is other than that though. :/ haha

    1. That sounds like a cozy way to write! Who needs a desk anymore anyway? πŸ™‚ I like having a cat next to me too, but usually Shikari ends up leaning on my neck and that doesn’t work out very well!

  2. First, maybe it’s a love seat? We have a small couch too:) and I had siblings and an always noisy home, so it’s nice to see other people understand. This post was great. I’m glad to see that prompt worked for you. It’s a great way to open up! As for my own personal writing style-story telling. I get caught up in the backstory and the how and why of my posts and work that I usually rant for AGES before my point is apparent.

    1. Yes, that’s probably it! Haha, it has a middle console thing on it, but yes I think a love seat would probably be closer than a couch to what it is (or is what it is!). πŸ˜‰ Thank you; I’m glad you understand the noisy household thing too! Lucas is always confused why I don’t hear him or have no idea what just happened, lol. (he was an only child!) I know what you mean, I can rant on and on forever. Usually I can kind of get to the point fairly easy in my posts; but try having me tell you a story IRL and I’ll go on and on forever! πŸ˜‰ It’s really not a bad thing though.

      1. My husband grew up an only child and he can’t stand noise. It has to be completely silent for him to get work done. I think silence is maddening haha. My irl stories are usually a lot funnier in my head, but I seem to be great at empathizing haha

      2. Haha, I know what you mean!
Silence definitely is maddening; Lucas actually works better with some music on at least so that’s nice! But he hasn’t quite gotten down the act of completely tuning everything out. It must be a sixth-sense type of thing or something. πŸ˜‰

  3. I have a special chair I sit in. This is where I do all my thinking, writing, computer stuff. Yes, this is known as “mommy’s chair,” lol! Geez, surely I can’t be that old! πŸ˜‰ Now, are you wanting fiction ideas or non-fiction? I can think of a non-fiction something to write about… your best vacation ever! Maybe? Regardless, file that away for the future! I love to hear about people’s vacations and look at pictures! πŸ˜€

    1. That sounds lovely! Haha, just because it’s “mommy’s chair” doesn’t make you old at all! πŸ™‚ That’s a really good one; I honestly hadn’t even ever thought to do that! I’ll definitely file it away. I’m not even really sure if it’s supposed to be fiction or non-fiction, so I think that will work just fine. I guess we’re going to come back to the suggestions on a later date in the course. Either way, I’ll definitely at some point in time be making a vacation post, that sounds like a lot of fun! πŸ˜€
