If You Write, The Ideas Will Come

If You Write, The Ideas Will Come

I wanted to write today. The itch was there to begin to write, to put something-anything-down on paper, virtual or real. I did write a little bit, but not really as much as I wanted to. For some reason the ideas would not flow.

Lucas and I watched Finding Neverland for the first time, and it was amazing. It’s the story of James Barrie, who wrote ‘Peter Pan’. I loved the way it showed him looking at things; he would see them in such a way that you were just like, β€œWow”. I feel like a lot of ‘great’ writers view the world differently than most of us, and I feel like I don’t necessarily see it that way, and that makes me worry I won’t be able to write anything that’s all that ‘great’. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not trying to get my name in the history books, I just would love to be able to be that crazy person writing all day long. (Another Johnny Depp film, Secret Window, anyone?!) Except not psychotic like that, ha.

The thing to do is just to write, and that’s why I’m penning this down. And by penning I mean typing. I’m rambling away on the keyboard, trying to get my thoughts collected to write something down that could be expounded upon, or used as is. Alas, nothing is coming to mind.

Let’s take a walk, and I shall try to tell you where we are, where we’re going. We meet on a street corner, you know the one, with the lamp whose light flickers on the fall evenings, and the moths do their final jig before the winter winds blow them out. It’s chilly, and we wisely both wore our jackets. Yours looks lovely, by the way. Here, we’ll cut through the alley behind this Victorian pearl home. Watch your step! They don’t take care of alleyways the way they do the streets.

Here’s our exit! This beautiful walkway. Gorgeous maple trees line our path on either side, and we’re completely enclosed in their warm embrace. The leaves have fallen where our feet tread, and slowly more come spiraling down. We stroll, we have all the time in the world. Ah, I was going to tell you of our destination, wasn’t I?

Well it’s funny you ask now. I wanted to take you this way, to show you the beauty that is at your very fingertips. To show you that I too, can see beauty in the most natural of things. I wanted to walk with you, to watch you smile at the leaves, at the sun fighting to stay, and the moon gently pushing it onward. Because we all must be pushed onward at some point, no?

What was that? My name? Why dear, I thought you knew.

Thank you for letting me ramble, I think that just unlocked my ideas for a story that Lucas gave me artistic license to use. I shall go write some actual stuff down, so as to not give anything away here. Have a wonderful weekend my great blogging friends. πŸ™‚

  1. I think your writing is quite great, and the very fact that you kind of drop everything to put your thoughts down is pretty inspirational. I tend to procrastinate at everything and this includes writing. Don’t ever stop. Plus a new Johnny Depp movie is always welcome (find him a really yummy part in your script)!

  2. In Kensington Park, in London, is a statue of Peter Pan.Barrie had them put it up at night so when the children passed by it on their way to school the next day, they would think it had appeared by magic.
Imagination is wonderful, isn’t it? Keep writing and imagining, Lydia. It’s magical!

    1. Awh, that is so awesome that he did that! I was reading about him after we watched the movie, and he sounds like just a wonderful human being all around. Imagination is definitely wonderful, and magical! It’s the best tool we all have. πŸ™‚

    1. Ha, thank you!! πŸ™‚ I appreciate you taking the time to read it. I wanted to write but didn’t know what to write about, so I figured I’d just start mushing words together! It seemed to work this time. πŸ™‚

    1. Thank you!! Haha, for once it did actually come pretty easy once I just sat there and started typing! I wasn’t expecting it to go so well; I’m definitely going to keep doing that from now on when I get stuck! πŸ™‚

  3. There is no one way to see the world. I mean, look at Stephen King. The way he sees the world is quite different than J. K. Rowling, which is quite different from Jane Austen which are all not quite the way I see it which is also not how you see it. Sometimes just getting your ideas out there is what matters most. And besides, every day we are alive, we make history, so count yourself amongst the greats:)

    1. That’s such a fabulous statement and so true. I never really thought about it like that, but yeah if we all saw the world the same there wouldn’t be so many great works of art that differ from each other and have their own voice. Thank you for putting that into perspective for me. πŸ™‚ Plus I love what you said about making history; I suppose we are amongst the greats. πŸ˜€

    1. Thank you! Yes, you should definitely try to start with an outline so you don’t forget anything! (my memory can be terrible, anyway) Then when you have time, go back and furiously write. πŸ™‚
